What is the meaning of life?

the meaning of life, life, meaning

Everyone looks for the meaning of life, maybe it's because we fear the unknown? As human beings we always need answers. It's been proven that you're more likely to get away with something if you give a reason to it, for example: cutting in line, if you cut in and say "I'm really sorry but I'm in a rush because of *insert lame excuse*" people are more likely to shrug and let it be whereas if you cut in without a word or an excuse you're more than likely going to be shouted at and forced to the back

I've written about life purpose before, explaining how I think we have our lives paved for us - sort of like destiny, but it's not quite the same as the meaning of life. I personally don't believe there is one grand meaning for life. A lot of people say it's love or happiness but in my mind, those are emotions and they will come and go depending on where you're at in life so they can't be THE meaning of/to life. However, I do believe, as individuals, we have to create and implement meaning to our own lives - whether it's helping people, travelling, gaining as much knowledge as you can - whatever it is you want to do, that is YOUR meaning to YOUR life. Do it with your whole heart and do it mindfully so you're present every step of the way 'cause otherwise, what's the bloody point?

I'm a strong believer in doing what you want to do regardless of other people's opinions this got me into a lot of trouble when I was younger lol but I've always lived by my seemingly selfish motto of "Don't do anything you don't want to do" - this applies to
E-V-E-R-Y-THING. If something brings me more misery than joy, I will point blank refuse to do it. If something doesn't align with my core values, I will refuse to do it. I will point blank refuse to do anything that I do not want to do. This makes me sound like a right spoilt brat but if I'm not enjoying myself during the process, it's going to bring everyone else around me down too. I'm not saying refuse to do your homework and when your mum asks why you tell her some weirdo who writes a blog told you to and I'm not telling you to tell your boss to fuck off when they ask you to go clean the windows, what I am saying is this: if you have a logical, well thought out, valid reason not to do something, do not do it, if you have tried to do something and it is affecting your mental health negatively, do not do it, if you have put your all into something and you realise it just isn't for you, do not do it. Buuuuut, if you just can't be arsed cause you're a lazy piece of shit, do not use my "don't do anything you don't want to do" motto as a cop out and more importantly, if you don't want to do something because you're scared but you know it will enhance your life, I think you should definitely suck it up buttercup, feel the fear and do it anyway!

I'm not sure if this post has turned into a bit of a rant or stuck to the point but my main point is that I don't believe there is one set meaning of life, you have to go out, fail, succeed, try new wonderful weird things and create meaning to your life based on what you believe and what you enjoy.

What is your meaning to life?

  1. I honestly love your 'deep' posts so much :) I agree so much with the whole 'son't do anything you don't want to do' thing. Maybe this is a stupid example but I've always been afraid of artistic gymnastics and whenever we had to do that in PE at school I hated it so much. When I was younger I let my teacher force me to do it anyways but at some point I realised that they can't tell me to do anything I really don't want to do/am afraid of. So from then on I simply refused because there was really no point to force myself to do it x

    1. Aw thank you Sara! No it's not silly at all, if it doesn't bring you joy and you don't really need to do it then there's no need to keep doing it, well done for sticking to your guns x
