7 songs that will change your life

7 songs that will change your life, songs, music

I always forget how much I love music until I stick on some old school tunes, let loose and throw my arms around like a loon in an attempt to dance. Music has massive impacts on my mood. If I want to write poetry, I'll listen to Bon Ivor, Ben Howard or some other acoustic shit that'll make me all emotional - if I want to set myself up for a good day, I'll listen to these 7 songs:

7 songs that will change your life

1.  Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's free to wear sunscreen

This song was formed of Mary Schmich's piece "Advice, like youth, probably wasted on the young" which a lot of people believe Kurt Vonnegut wrote. It is truly powerful and spoke to me in so many ways, it makes you realise how small things are in life and how things aren't worth worrying about, my favourite quote from the song is "know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum" I would highly recommend this song to anyone and everyone, it's like a little guide book on life.

2. Tupac Shakur - Keep ya head up

This song was originally a spoken word poem Tupac wrote, which later became one of his most famous songs. This song never fails to make me happy - the lyrics are so real and full of emotion I can't help but attempt to rap along. Tupac himself is a truly inspirational man, I strongly advise you to watch some of his interviews on YouTube as he is a very intelligent man. Every line is as good as each other but my favourite has to be "And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more"

3. Tupac Shakur - Baby don't cry

Yup, another Tupac song, I heard this when I was feeling a little down on the way to work a few years ago and it completely lifted my mood. The one line that spoke to my soul was "You gotta find a way to survive cause they win when your soul dies" every time I feel low, uninspired and unproductive I stick this song on just to listen to that one line lol and 9 times out of 10 it makes me feel better.

4. Mary J Blige - Just fine

This song came on a music channel around Christmas time 2013, I'd been through quite an ordeal a week or so before and wasn't feeling great. I was also quite insecure about my looks back then wonky teeth, wild hair but i embrace these things now so this song snapped me back into reality and made me realise I should stop hating on myself. My favourite line is "So I like what I see when I'm lookin' at me when I'm walking past the mirror" but the whole song is very inspirational especially if you've been down on yourself recently!

5. Eminem - It's okay

One rainy day at 11pm I left work; no umbrella, stressed out about money, freezing cold, and now soaking wet, I jumped on my bus and stuck in my headphones, I wanted to escape life for a while and a song I'd never heard before came on, the lyrics being "It's a broke day but everything is okay, I'm up all night but everything is alright, it's a rough week and I don't get enough sleep" it made me feel united and less alone, like other people have felt how I was feeling in that moment and it reassured me that everything was going to be okay

6. Bob Marley - No woman no cry

I love reggae, it makes me so, so happy and Bob is the king of reggae. His lyrics are uplifting and comforting though this song has a strong memory for me: I was sat drinking a coffee, smoking a cigarette on the grass in the sun just before work and a homeless bloke came and asked if he could have a cigarette, so I passed him my tobacco, and let him take some. He sat down and we started chatting, he was telling me about how he ended up in Bournemouth from Kenya where he's originally from. He told me about his brother who died and his children, he showed me a picture of his kids, the boy was named after his late brother. Whilst he was telling me, tears welled up in his eyes and I reassured him everything was okay and I understood why he was upset, he then started to sing No woman no cry whilst crying, which soon turned to laughter and so we ended up sat in the sun, smoking, laughing and singing Bob Marley as passers by gave us strange looks. It was an eventful hour but sadly I had to go into work but he was such an interesting man and this song always reminds me of him and the hardships he's faced, reassuring me everything's going to be alright.

7. Matisyahu - Live like a warrior

This is a very relatable song, they cover all sorts of thoughts and emotions you may face in your life and it just encourages you to live how you want to live, fight for what you believe in and always be true to yourself. My favourite line is "Let yesterday burn and throw it in a fire, live like a warrior" it has a country reggae vibe which I'm so down with 'cause lol it makes me wanna get up an shake my b00tayyyyy.

I really, really, really advise you all to give these 7 songs a listen cause I want them to help you like they've helped me - even if you don't need help, they're just fucking great songs to listen to.
